Sarah (photo by Marc Waller)The Moore family from Tockwith in Yorkshire made history at Castle Combe circuit in the latest round of the UK's first ever Smart race series, The 4Two Cup.

Siblings, David, Nigel and Sarah dominated the second race of the weekend in the pint-sized cars to rule the podium, something which has never been seen before in motor racing history.

In a close battle with his brother Nigel throughout the race, David held onto the lead to take his second race win of the weekend just pipping his brother to the line.

'Nigel was behind me from the first lap and throughout the race. We both had a bit of trouble with the cars going into limp mode, so sometimes he was in front of me and I was chasing and vice versa.  We made it entertaining and it was a very close battle.'

David (photo by Marc Waller)16 year old David has competed in the Ginetta Junior and G40 Championships and this year has seen him race in the UK Formula Ford Championship and 4Two Cup.

Nigel is the most successful of the clan and at just 19 has won Championships in the Ginetta Juniors and G50, the team Championship in British GT4, Formula Palmer Audi and was the youngest ever driver to compete in the legendary Le Mans 24 hours.  This year has seen him race in the Euro Speed Series. His first time out in the Smart cars proved to be an enjoyable experience;

'I started from the back but got a good start and then battled with my brother.  It was such a good weekend and it made history in our family too as it was the first time we've raced in the same class.'

Smart Cars (photo by Marc Waller)Playing the boys at their own game, Sarah also won the Ginetta Junior Championship becoming the first woman to win one on the British Touring Car Championship package in 2009 racing against David that season. That same year she won the Autosport Club Driver of the Year Award and was nominated for the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. 2011 has seen the 17 year old swap roofed sports cars for open single seaters and is currently contesting the Intersteps Championship.  Like Nigel, this was her first race in the Smart.

'I had a rubbish start, Nigel came flying through and then I was battling with Tom Mills for ages.  He then made a mistake and I caught up with my brothers and battled with them for the last few laps.'

Smart Cars (photo by Marc Waller)Sarah finished just 0.653 seconds behind winner David in what was a Moore onslaught to the chequered flag.

It’s possible we could see the family filling even more postions in a race as there are still another two younger siblings ready in the wings to take to the track! They seem to make a habit of achieving firsts in the sport and the Moore family are certainly a name to watch out for! By Olivia Gauch and Mark Waller
