Hover Bikes are GO! Print E-mail

Hover bikeThe next generation of racing has arrived.  Move over MotoGP and your superbikes with tyres, how yesterday will you seem soon.

With 1170cc's delivering 80kW to it's Tasmanian Oak carbon tipped rotor blades, the Hoverbike's creator Chris Malloy estimates it can cruise at 10,000 feet at 173mph.  Working on the same principle as the famous Chinook helicopter, with its counter-rotating rotors cancelling out each rotor's torque reaction, a twist and go of the throttle will add a whole new dimension to your average track day or blast through the countryside.

The finishing touches to the design to enable a first flight are due in the next few months promising a wild ride for the first test rider, or pilot.By Nick Moore

Doesn't actually appear to do much hovering in the video...

Flight tests are due in a few months, hopefully successful ones. My inner geek is hoping for Star Wars style speeder bikes to be the result of hover bikes going mainstream. Simoncelli would crash spectacularly on one of those in a future HoverGP :D
