The best of the best come out to play for an event that cannot be missed by motoring enthusiasts. Some of the most exotic, expensive cars on are on display and being driven by some of the biggest names the sport, but it is not all about the glitz, glamour and fireworks, it is also about finding an aspect of the event that touches you on a deeper level. Something that makes you smile, a memory that you will keep with you for years to come. This year’s Festival of Speed will be full of those memories for everyone who attends, but personally it will be a very special event for sure. As soon as it was announced one of the themes was going to be the celebrating 50 years of Jaguars iconic E-type, a smile swept across my face. For years while I was growing up in Australia, all I had heard about from my best friend’s father was how much he loved that car, how his greatest motoring wish was to have one sit pride of place in his driveway. While the E-type has yet to take residence out the front of his house, I will get to share this anniversary with my best friend when we both attend and will be sure to recall to her father later how fantastic the entire event was. The only icing on the cake would be to have him there to share the experience with, but sharing it together will be the next best thing. It is hard to believe it is 50 years since one of Jaguars most recognisable cars was first unveiled at the Geneva Motorshow, soon becoming on of the most fashionable to own. While I have my own story of what it means to me, I can only imagine the countless others held around the world. The first dates picked up and dropped off in the gorgeous piece of machinery, the weddings driven too, perhaps even a family heirloom or favourite, shared through the generations, not so much a car but a part of the history shared with loved ones. What will be the piece of the Festival of Speed you will take home with you? By Jacki Warnock
