I want to join the WSBK circus Print E-mail

WSBK The FIM World Superbike circus is on the move again.

They've been to an Island, they've played in the Park, and they've just visited the Cathedral. Now, they are heading for Italy and the Autodromo Di Monza, set in a mature parkland in the suburbs of Milan.

The top performer to date is Carlos Checa: he has been consistent and quick, with 4 wins and a couple of third places this season so far. Riding a facory Ducati (in all but name), the team will be on home turf and will surely want to impress their faithful followers.

Similarly, Aprilia and their rider, Max Biaggi, will be looking for glory in front of the passionate Tifosi fans. Max will be keen to visit the top step of the podium, having come close four times this season already.

Marco Melandri has already been there and seen it, after scoring a maiden World Superbike victory at Donington Park. He also saw Biaggi's hand when Max paid him a visit to 'discuss' an on-track incident. The Italian-based Yamaha team will be encouraging Marco to turn the other cheek and prove his point out on the track.

Jonathan Rea made the most of the Ten Kate team's home advantage in Assen by taking a win and a third place in a confident display. With his recent injury behind him, this could be the start of a Castrol Honda resurgence.

BMW Motorrad rider Leon Haslam will be soon be heading to the Parabolica and hoping for a 'U'-turn in his luck. At this stage last year, when riding for the Alstare Suzuki team, he was leading the Championship by eighteen points.

To date we have only seen occassional glimpses of the potential in the BMW. The pressure will be mounting on the team and riders alike, but a podium position in Monza may relieve the situation.

So, after three rounds and six races, we have five different manufacturers and riders competing for the top spot in the championship. With another ten rounds  to go, the stage is still only being set for one of the greatest shows on earth. By Fran Hollywood

"Tifosi" in italian means "fans". So you are saying the homecrowd are "passionate fans fans". Like I said, small but irritating.

Yes, to be part of the circus. Great atmosphere, drama aplenty, hot rivalries shaping up. An excellent year all around.
